Embracing Safety With Technology

Anthony’s Travel utilises the latest technology to enhance and increase safety, driving standards, performance and fuel efficiency.

We have invested heavily in vehicle technology that enables us to constantly monitor and make adjustments to our drivers’ performance if required.

We have carried out a great deal of investment, promotion and training on various safety-related aspects listed below:

In 2003 we introduced vehicle trackers and were one of the first coach companies to do so. By doing this, we were able to monitor route efficiency. Alerts are sent when vehicles are idling or if they go over the speed limit and all reports are analysed weekly. Since the introduction of tracking facilities, our fuel usage has reduced.

In 2007, we embarked on a programme to fit synectic CCTV systems to our coaches, whilst this is an accepted practice in the bus industry, very few coach operators have taken advantage of this technology.

All vehicles are fitted with multi-camera systems that cover all external angles of the coach, saloon and hazardous areas such as steps and the driver’s cab area. Also, conversations with drivers in the cab area are recorded.

In 2010, we introduced Genius telematic systems to all of our vehicles. Each driver is issued with an individual log to which we are able to monitor driving standards and behaviour, monitoring areas such as braking, cornering and acceleration. Each driver is provided with a score per journey.  This enables us to analysis data to identify any potential areas of concerns and offer training when needed. Staff have also commented that since using similar driving methods in their own cars, they have noticed a reduction in their own personal fuel use.

All our driving staff are entered into ROSCO Safe driving scheme.

In 2012, we were the first accredited member of BUSK Simply safe and Benchmark approval schemes for safe school transport. As a founder member, we recognised the importance of schools, governors and parents realising their own responsibility in booking safe transport and providing the correct information so they can be assured that they have done everything within their powers to satisfy their legal requirements.

We introduced the School of The year Award which goes to a school that recognises the need for safe transport. Following the success of this award, we were approached by BUSK and the scheme has now been rolled out by other coach operators nationwide.  We also have participated in BUSK Conferences as an industry panellist.

In 2013, we introduced AlcolockUK breathalyzers to our fleet of coaches and minicoaches. This means each vehicle will not start unless the driver has completed a breath test.  This gives our clients greater peace of mind that when booking with Anthony’s Travel that safety is a priority.

In 2019 we were the very first Coach operator to fit the Wheelysafe tyre pressure management and wheel security system.

In 2021 we the first coach operator in the world to dual fit Hispacold EC03 air purifiers and PEPA filters both independently eliminating airborne viruses including COVID-19 by over 99%.

Doing Training Differently at Anthony’s Travel

The aim and objective of Anthony’s Travel training programme is to provide bespoke training that not only enhances the performance levels of team members and further improves the experience for our customers but recognising the individual skills of team members, helping them grow and reach their full potential whilst promoting wellbeing within the work place.

Whilst CPC legislation has brought in a level of continued training for the industry, the generalness of a number of the courses registered often fail to deliver training that would benefit the individual and the company with subject matter not applicable to the operations at Anthony’s Travel. The experience of CPC training is often viewed negatively as a result within the industry, Drivers even viewing it as ‘ nap time ‘. Training is an investment, not an expense if delivered correctly, the key is putting together a system that works for all.

Long before the introduction of Driver CPC, Anthony’s Travel introduced training days, team building exercises, tool box talks to encourage and educate our employees.

Believe to achieve

Its imperative team members understand the company ethos and believe in the same goals , to deliver successful training each member of staff needs  to ‘believe to achieve’ their full potential.

We recognise that every team member is different,  in order for us to assist each individual to grow, we also recognise that wellbeing ( not just in the workplace ) is a key factor, we endeavour to nurture our employees and provide continued training and support throughout their employment

Bring in the best

The saying ‘ buy cheap, buy twice’ certainly applies to training. It’s not just about ticking boxes and meeting required legislation, its about setting the bar and leading the way.  To deliver this we realised we could not achieve this on our own and brought in a number of partners who understand fully our business ethos and what we want to achieve, they really understand our business and are able to be a ‘critical friend’ of the company, using  their expertise to identify areas where Anthony’s Travel can potentially improve.   Each team member is encouraged to ‘pick the brains’ of the experts and always do!
